Lifehacker recently posted a shocking statistic about credit card fraud:
Hotels security breaches make up a shockingly high percentage of the credit card data heists each year. How high? 38% of cases can be traced back to hotels. Everyone is worried about the waiter stealing their credit card info but restaurants comprising only 13% of data breaches by comparison.
via Use a Travel-Only Credit Card to Isolate Fraudulent Activity.
For the budget traveler or long-term traveler, this situation could be a nightmare especially as you might be less likely to find time to go over your statement in detail as you might be at home.
Lifehacker’s suggestion? Designate the function of one credit card to be travel expenses only. With less transactions and more focused ones on your statement every month, you’ll be in a position to pay special attention to potentially fraudulent activity on your card. You’ll also be isolating and high lighting transactions with hotels for potential security breaches.
